The Avenor Traditional Council (ATC) has denied the existence of Atsiame Traditional Area within its jurisdiction.
The Council said “truly and correctly”, Atsiame is one of the 13 clans of Avenor within the traditional area.
This explanation was contained in a media release by the ATC to correct what they said was a wrong impression allegedly created by Torgbui Samlafo IV, a sub chief in Avenorfeme, and the former Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, that Atsiame is a traditional area when they called on the Awomefia of the Anlo state, Torgbui Sri III.
Their visit was to call for peace among Ewes in the country for development.
The statement further said “historically, there is nothing like Atsiame Dukor or Atsiame Traditional Area, in any part of the Avenor Traditional Area or the entire Volta Region of the Republic of Ghana”.
The statement said traditional councils were a creation of law and that there is no traditional area known as Atsiame in the register of traditional areas.
“Atsiame, truly and correctly is one of the 13 clans of Avenor, within the Avenor Traditional Area/Council. This historical simple fact is well known to all and sundry.”
According to the statement, there are no clan chiefs in Avenor or anywhere in Ghana but clan heads who may not be a chief.
The statement said the call for unity within the Anlo people and the Volta Region as a whole for development was welcome but in the process of preaching that noble message, the history of the Avenor people appear to have been distorted.
The statement entreated the people of the Avenor area to disregard the existence of Atsiame Traditional Council and continue to remain a single unit for the development of the area.
