The District Court has imposed GH¢600.00 fine on a 24-year-old man, for stealing wheelbarrow, at Ashaiman, in the Greater Accra Region.
Kingsley Oduro will serve a six-month imprisonment in hard labour ifhe defaults in paying the fine.
The court also ordered convict to refund GH¢700.00, wheelbarrow to Ebenezer Oduro, the complainant.
The court presided over by Mr Derick Parden Eshun convicted accused after he pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.
Police Inspector Kojo Dansu, prosecuting, said the complainant, resident of Kaketo, Ashaiman, packed his wheelbarrow and went to the bathroom, and when he (complainant) returned, he realised the wheelbarrow had been stolen.
The court heard that a witness informed complainant that he saw accused pushing the wheelbarrow away.
Insp Dansu said the witness and complainant arrested accused at Tsinagbe, Ashaiman, in the night, and handed him (accused) over to the police.
The prosecution stated that upon interrogation, accused admitted that he stole the wheelbarrow and sold it to a man for GH¢70.00, in Tema.
Insp Dansu said accused was escorted to Tema by the police to identify the buyer, but to no avail. —GNA
