The Government of Ghana has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan, expressing grave concern over the devastating humanitarian crisis caused by ongoing clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement issued in Accra on Monday, 3rd November 2025, Ghana described the conflict as “atrocious and deeply distressing,” citing massive civilian casualties, large-scale displacement, and the growing threat of starvation faced by millions of Sudanese citizens.
The government said the continuous fighting has destabilized the region and undermined efforts to restore democratic governance in Sudan, where hopes for a peaceful transition have been derailed by months of violence.
“Ghana stands in solidarity with the people of Sudan and remains committed to the promotion of peace, stability, and democratic governance across the African continent,” the statement declared.
Reaffirming that “there is no military solution to the crisis,” the Government of Ghana called on both parties to immediately halt all military operations and establish humanitarian corridors to allow for the safe and unrestricted delivery of life-saving assistance to affected populations.
The statement further urged strict adherence to international humanitarian law, ensuring the protection of civilians, aid workers, and medical personnel.
Ghana also appealed to the warring parties to return to the negotiating table and chart a clear path toward the establishment of a civilian-led transitional government capable of steering Sudan toward peace and national reconstruction.
Additionally, the government called on all regional and international actors to refrain from supporting either side and to fully comply with the United Nations arms embargo on Darfur, stressing that external interference only prolongs the suffering of the Sudanese people.
The statement reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to work with partners, including the African Union (AU) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), to intensify diplomatic and mediation efforts aimed at achieving a lasting resolution to the conflict.
“Ghana remains unwavering in its commitment to peace on the African continent and stands ready to support all genuine efforts to end the hostilities and restore stability in Sudan,” the statement concluded.
