The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed that Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong remains in the party’s presidential primary race, dispelling recent rumours about his possible disqualification.
Reports had earlier suggested that the former NPP General Secretary risked being disqualified from the upcoming primaries after allegedly failing to pay the mandatory development fee required as part of the nomination process. According to party sources, the vetting committee, in a report submitted to the National Council and National Executive Committee, indicated that Mr. Agyepong had not met this key requirement.
However, a statement issued by the Presidential Elections Committee on Friday, October 10, 2025, and signed by its Secretary, William Yamoah, confirmed Mr. Agyepong’s inclusion among the five aspirants cleared to contest in the party’s presidential primary slated for January 31, 2026.
The statement listed the order in which the candidates will appear on the ballot paper as follows:
1. Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
2. Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
3. H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
4. Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
5. Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
The confirmation puts to rest weeks of speculation about Mr. Agyepong’s status in the race, reaffirming his determination to contest for the NPP’s flagbearer position nearly a decade after his suspension from the party in 2015.
The Committee, in its statement, expressed appreciation to all presidential candidates, their representatives, and officials of the Electoral Commission for their cooperation during the balloting exercise.
It further assured party members of its unwavering commitment to transparency, fairness, and adherence to the highest democratic standards in the conduct of the presidential primary.
