Her Honour Sedinam Awo Kwadam, presiding over Circuit Court 7 in Accra, has granted bail totalling GH¢450,000 to three men standing trial for assault and causing harm in connection with a violent altercation at Tudu.
The accused, Alhaji Saeed Sani (44, a hostel operator), Alhassan Sulemana (28, a commercial motorbike rider), and Mohammed Awah (26, a mason) were each admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢150,000 with three sureties, one of which must be justified by immovable property.
The accused pleaded not guilty to all three counts: assault and causing harm, contrary to sections 84 and 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). According to the prosecution, led by ASP A.K. Oppong, on June 9, 2025, the accused allegedly attacked two complainants,Kugbonu Peter, a vulcanizer from Dodze, and Joshua Rockson, a trader and hostel manager from Adabraka — following a dispute over a failed rental transaction.
The court was told that the incident stemmed from a complaint made by students of Accra Technical University, Kugbonu Daniel and Kugbonu David, who had paid GH¢9,600 to Alhaji Sani in May 2025 for accommodation at Tudu that was never provided.
When repeated requests for a refund went unanswered, the students sought assistance from their uncle, Peter, and from Rockson.
On June 9, the complainants confronted Sani, leading to a heated argument. Prosecutors allege that Sani returned with reinforcements, including Sulemana and Awah, who assaulted the complainants using chains and sticks.
Police Corporal Andrew Adjetey, who was passing by, intervened and managed to arrest all three suspects at the scene. One of the complainants, Rockson, reportedly sustained a fractured leg during the attack and was treated at the Police Hospital, where medical forms were endorsed.
The accused are to report to the case investigator every Thursday between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. as part of their bail conditions. The case has been adjourned to July 23, 2025.
