Ghana’s Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has lashed out at fellow Member of Parliament, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, over what he described as “palpable falsehoods” and defamatory remarks accusing him of corruption.

Dr. Ayine, visibly agitated, addressed the media in Accra shortly after leaving court on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 where he firmly denied taking bribes or engaging in any corrupt act as a public official.
The press conference was sparked by a social media post from A Plus, MP for Gomoa Central, who labeled Dr. Ayine as “corrupt” and a “thief.”
“As your Attorney-General, I wish to assure you that I have sufficient reserves of integrity to continue to perform the tasks assigned me by His Excellency the President. I have never stolen before in my life and have never received a bribe in public office,” Dr. Ayine declared.
He dismissed the allegations linking him to the controversial passage of the Sanitation Levy, stating he was neither part of the Finance Committee of Parliament nor involved in the plenary debate on the matter. The Minister presented a copy of the committee’s report to support his claim.

Reacting to A Plus’ claim that he had accepted campaign funds from a businessman, known as Dr. Sledge, Dr. Ayine confirmed receiving a total of GH¢200,000 as campaign contributions in 2024 – GH¢100,000 in person and another GH¢100,000 towards logistical support, during his parliamentary vetting. He also acknowledged receiving two pickups from donors who preferred anonymity.
“These donations were made before I assumed office and I have had no dealings with these individuals since. I have not and will never, trade public interest for personal favours,” he said.
Challenging A Plus to back his claims, Dr. Ayine said “If A Plus has any evidence of corruption or thievery against me, I am challenging him today to present it at a press conference or report it to the Police. Let him also explain the ‘silly’ thing I was supposedly planning to do that frightened him into his Facebook rant.”
He further warned, “In my hometown of Zuarungu, we do not fear mud being thrown at us; we walk into the mud to deal with the person doing the mudslinging.”
Shortly after the press conference, A Plus responded with a fiery Facebook post, using unprintable words and mocking the Attorney-General, suggesting he needed a “brain reset.”
The public spat between the seasoned legal mind and the outspoken entertainer-turned-politician has ignited widespread attention.
As tensions rise between the two lawmakers, the stage appears set for what could become a landmark political and legal showdown between the legal and entertainment fraternities in Ghana’s Parliament.
