The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Health Facilities and Regulatory Agency (HeFRA), Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah, has initiated steps for the Odumase-Krobo Nursing and Midwifery Training College to be accredited to start training students in diploma programme in areas such as nursing, midwifery and public health.

At a meeting held on Friday March 21, 2025 with the Technical Adviser for the Minister of Health, Dr. Awoonor Williams, and the Head of the Health Training Institutions, at the Ministry of Health (MoH), Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah, who is also a Consultant Physician, appealed for the fast-tracking of the accreditation process to enable it to fulfil its mandate and the mission for its establishment.
According to Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah, who is also an indigene of Odumase-Krobo, the college, which was established in 2015 and in its tenth year of operation had only been running a two-year health care/nursing assistants (preventive) programmes instead of training general nurses, midwives and public health nurses.
However, he noted that because of the delayed accreditation, the college has been operating below its capacity and mandate, necessitating the ongoing intervention for an immediate accreditation for the commencement of diploma programmes in line with the vision that fuelled its establishment.
He noted that most nursing and midwifery training colleges are being accredited to run degree programmes, adding that ‘the Odumase Krobo Nursing and Midwifery College cannot continue to train and award certificates in nursing assistant (preventive) programme”.
Dr. Winfred Korletey Baah expressed optimism that with the ongoing efforts and collaboration between the MoH, his outfit (HeFRA) and other relevant institutions, actions and the accreditation processes will be expedited for the college to commence diploma programmes in general nursing, midwifery and public health this year.
The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Health Facilities and Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) indicated that “the diploma programmes will commence this year, hopefully, given the assurances I have received from the Ministry”.
The college, which operated in temporary facilities for five years at Odumase, relocated to its current permanent site south of the Odumase Township in 2020.
It presently has a student population of nearly four hundred.
