Some women in Ghana marked the 2025 International Women’s Day by telling their life stories and inspiring each other in bold and frank conversations that left several shedding tears of resilience.
The event, organised by Adwoa Amofa Osei and powered by Loud Royalty Events, was dubbed the Stronger Together Women’s Health Conference (STWHC).
Held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, Legon, Accra, the conference was a conversation on women’s health and survival journey.
Speakers included health experts and some women who had lived it, felt it and agreed to share their story with other women.
SUPPORT
Welcoming participants to the conference, the vision bearer, Adwoa Amofa Osei, popularly known as Adwoaloud, shared the inspiration behind the event.
According to her, a situation she went through in 2019 for about seven months, saw her visiting nine hospitals for a solution.
She stated that after recovering in September 2020, she decided to organise the event to educate women on their health and inspire them, but due to procrastination, it took over four years to manifest.
“So for me, a few years back, specifically in 2019, right from January 2, 2019 up until July 31, 2019 I bled every single day of that year and I kept running around.
“I went to about nine hospitals, including fertility, and I did about 12 Gynaecologists and it was one diagnosis after the other. Everyone was just telling me something different, and then eventually I met my current Gynaecologist.

“In fact, at some point, one doctor who I went to see, I just walked into his consulting room. He asked me what drugs I had been given and all. He just looked at me and said, gyama wo ’nya cervical cancer oo, to wit, you have cervical cancer. Just like that. I bet if I wasn’t very strong-willed, I don’t know what would have happened before I left that consulting room.
“So the very first time that I went into the theatre on 4th September 2020, after I recovered, I decided that I wanted to do this event, but nobody procrastinates more than I do. So every time I think about it, I’m like, no, it’s not the right time. We hit this year, and it kept coming back to me, and then I was talking to my friends about it,” Adwoa narrated.
She continued that, “But today, I and my team and all of you that have supported, we gathered here to have these conversations that are oftentimes just ignored, and it’s very sensitive to talk about. And people don’t know who to talk to. So, it’s more like a support group. Let’s have these conversations. Let’s learn. Let’s educate ourselves. During the time when I was receiving the messages, I talked to a few people, some people over 30, and they did not even know what they had to do at their age. So these are critical issues that we need to look at as women.
“So that is why we are here. I hope that by the time we end, we would have been impacted, we would have been informed, and we would have been educated. I wish you all a good stay. Do enjoy yourself.”
PRESENTATIONS
Dr. Vanessa Aseye Atikpui talked to participants about sexual and reproductive health and mental health matters.
Staying on her topic, she stated that these conversations are being had so as to reduce the stigma associated with women’s health in general “and to educate and empower us as women.”
She said, “Knowing your body allows you to spot anything that may be unwell. If you know so, we need to do better. Nobody goes to check in on their health. But then getting help would help you determine anything that is bothering you. And it’s okay to ask for help.”
Dr. Kwabena Apea-Kubi, Reproductive Medicine Consultant, talked about the incidence of infertility, the causes and the evaluation.
Other Speakers took turns in sharing their life stories to inspire their fellow women, some of whom got emotional.
Endometriosis Advocate Azitariga Atinganma Talata, Founder of My Dear Sisters Keeper Gh, Whitney Boakye-Mensah, and Media Personality Gloria AkpeneNyarku, popularly known as MzGee, shared their survival journey with participants.
