Dansoman Circuit Court Judge, Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, has directed the Police Hospital to conduct an age determination test for FatawuIssaka, who is facing criminal charges but is suspected to be a minor.
The police prosecution initially claimed Issaka is 20 years old. However, the court raised concerns about his physical appearance, which suggested he might be under 18 years.
In light of this, the judge adjourned the case to February 19, 2025 instructing the prosecution to verify his age. Until then, Issaka will be held at a juvenile detention center.
Charges and Allegations
Issaka is charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and stealing, under sections 23(1) and 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). Two of his alleged accomplices, identified as Aziz Moro and Godsway, remain at large.
According to the prosecution, Issaka and his accomplices attempted to steal goats from Osei Asibey Poku, a facility officer residing at Awoshie Market in Accra.
The incident occurred on February 5, 2025 around 1:48 a.m.
Poku, awakened by his dog’s barking allegedly spotted the suspects near his fence and called for help. While two suspects managed to escape, Issaka was apprehended with assistance from neighbors.
During police investigations, Issaka reportedly admitted to participating in the attempted theft but claimed he remained outside the compound while his accomplices scaled the fence.
A search of the premises uncovered a sack containing two dead goats, which Issaka allegedly identified as the stolen animals.
Authorities further disclosed that Issaka has a history of criminal activity, having been arrested multiple times within the police division for various offenses.
Meanwhile, a manhunt is ongoing for the other suspects. The court will reconvene on February 19, 2025 for further proceedings.
