The Circuit Court in Dansoman, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, has ordered an age verification test for Ganiru Abdul, an accused person charged with unlawful entry and stealing.
The order came after the court presumed the accused to be a juvenile, despite prosecution claims that he is 21 years old. As Abdul was uncertain about his actual age, the court instructed the prosecution to take him to the Police Hospital for an official age determination.
Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder presented the accused before the court, where he was remanded to the juvenile detention center until February 24, 2024.
According to court documents, on February 9, 2025, at around 3:30 p.m., Abdul was seen leaving the premises of Claudia Alirah, a businesswoman residing at Adabraka, carrying a pink polythene bag.
Armah Foster, a security officer stationed at the Police Senior Officers’ residence, stopped Abdul and questioned him about the contents of the bag and his purpose within the premises.
Abdul allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory response and refused to disclose the contents of the bag.
A search revealed a water pumping machine valued at GH¢ 3,000, which was later identified as the property of Alirah.
Following Abdul’s arrest and further police investigation, police discovered a pattern of stolen water pumping machines and air-condition outdoor units in the area. The complainant, upon realizing her machine was missing, visited the Regional Police CID office, where she identified her stolen item.
Abdul admitted to the offence in his caution statement and was subsequently charged and arraigned before the court.
The case has been adjourned to February 24, 2024, pending the results of the age verification test.
