The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, is courting the support of the media and traditional authorities in pushing the development agenda for the region.
Addressing the media after assuming office on Tuesday, Regional Minister Nelson noted that the region was plagued with challenges in the area of roads, most particularly illegal mining, popularly known as ‘galamsey’.

As a result, the support of the media and chiefs would be needed to fight the challenges which had plagued the region, as well as pushing the agenda of the region forward. He charged the media to collaborate with his office for the development of the region.
“Let’s have Western region at heart and bring positive change to the region. With unity of purpose, we should be able to make meaningful strides”, he said.
According to him, as the president’s representative in the region, he was going to ensure that the vision of the president for the region had been pursued to make the lives of the people of the region better.
“Everything in that vision is what I am going to carry forward and I cannot do that alone, that is why we have the chiefs and media. Everything that has to do with the region, I believe it is in your interest so we will be happy to have you around”.
He expressed the hope that the media would paint the region in a good light, “so together we can champion development for the region”, he said, adding “we should be able to have a better view of the situation in MMDAs”, but was quick to add that infrastructure has always been a challenge.
However, he said the government was committed to resolving this infrastructural challenge in whatever form or shape. He mentioned the Market Circle redevelopment and the Takoradi Flyover project as the key ones that would immediately be attended to.
Additionally, he mentioned the Kojokrom road, the portion of Takoradi-Cape Coast stretch starting from Beposo.
“They are going to receive immediate attention to bring relief to commuters. I am committed to getting it done. So the issue of infrastructure will any day receive my attention”.

On the role traditional authorities would play in his administration, Regional Minister Nelson emphasised the importance chiefs play in championing development.
He was happy the challenge that overwhelmed the Western Regional House of Chiefs (WRHC) has been overcome.
“I am happy to be working with them because what concerns the chiefs equally concerns the government. We are on the same page when it comes to issues of development of the WR.”
Interacts with staff, Security Capos
Joseph Nelson, in another development, has addressed a durbar of staff of the Western Regional Coordinating Council (WRCC) and outlined the service he was going to offer as a Regional Minister.
“Whatever service you are offering and what I am going to offer is going to be at the heart of the welfare of the people. I have come for us to reinforce that service and that will make the lives of the people of the region better”.
“This commitment is what I seek that together we work to uplift the image of the region and welfare of the people more importantly”.He told the staff he would operate an open door policy so they should feel free and work together.
“No pressure, but remember there is work to be done and that work must be done well. The journey is long, but certainly it begins today, let us hold our hands together and I believe we will be able to achieve a lot for the region,” he said.
