The Circuit Court in Dansoman, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, has adjourned a case involving Gideon Mensah, a 24-year-old driver, to February 24, 2025 after the accused failed to appear in court when the matter was called.
Gideon Mensah is facing two counts: unlawful entry and stealing, both contrary to the Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
The charges stem from an alleged incident on January 30, 2025, at Glefe, a suburb of Dansoman, where he is accused of unlawfully entering the room of Collins Asiedu with the intent to steal.
According to court documents, Asiedu, also a driver, was in the process of relocating within the same community when the alleged theft occurred.
Around 1:30 a.m., while he and his wife, Mavis Nettey, were moving their belongings, Nettey reportedly spotted Gideon Mensah lurking in the darkness.
After a brief absence of 10 to 15 minutes, the couple returned to find their room broken into. Asiedu discovered that his LG Plasma television (GH¢2,600), Techno Cammon 30S phone (GH¢4,200), an ear pod (GH¢70), and GH¢1,500 in cash had been stolen.
Suspicious of Mensah, Nettey reportedly sat at the entrance of his house while Asiedu called for assistance. Together with two witnesses, Kpakpo Theophilus and a man known as “Father,” they searched Mensah’s room and allegedly found the stolen items.
The Techno phone and ear pod were in plain sight, while the LG television was hidden under a wooden pallet nailed to the bed frame.
Gideon Mensah was later found near a tricycle at Dansoman Last Stop around 4:00 a.m. and reportedly admitted to the theft when confronted
With Mensah absent in court on Monday, the judge rescheduled the hearing for February 24, 2025.
His whereabouts remain unclear and it is uncertain whether the court will take further action to ensure his attendance at the next sitting.
Legal Implications
If convicted, Mensah could face severe penalties, including imprisonment, fines, or both, under the Criminal and Other Offences Act.
