A 28-year-old security guard, David Oyivor, has pleaded guilty to stealing air conditioners from a warehouse he was assigned to protect.
Oyivor was arraigned before the Dansoman Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit, where he admitted to the offence. The court remanded him into police custody until February 19, 2025 for sentencing.
Reading the facts of the case to the court, Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye said Oyivor, employed as a security guard at Villa De K.A. Estate in North Kaneshie, Greater Accra, was charged with stealing under Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
He stated that on November 23, 2024Oyivor was caught attempting to leave the company’s warehouse with two used air conditioners.
A Witness, Frank Boateng, intercepted him and instructed him to return the items, which he did.
Following this incident, the Estate Manager, Linda Nyarko, conducted an inventory and discovered that three used Hisense air conditioners, valued at GH¢7,500 and four used Nasco air conditioners, valued at GH¢10,000 had been stolen.
The total value of the missing items amounted to GH¢17,500. Nyarko reported the case to the police, leading to Oyivor’s arrest.
During interrogation, he admitted to stealing only two of the air conditioners and selling them to a scrap dealer for GH¢300 each. However, he was unable to assist the police in retrieving the stolen items.
After investigations, Oyivor was formally charged and brought before the court, where he pleaded guilty to the offence.
He remains in police custody pending his next court appearance on February 19, when the court is expected to deliver its ruling on the case.
