A 36-year-old unemployed ex-convict, Foster Nyarko, has been convicted for unlawful entry and theft at two government institutions—the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
Nyarko admitted to the offences and is awaiting sentencing by the Circuit Court, presided over by Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, on February 27, 2025.
He pleaded guilty simpliciter when presented before the court on Monday by the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori Appiah.
Court proceedings revealed that on December 4, 2024, Nyarko unlawfully entered the Ministry of Labour, Jobs, and Employment under the pretense of seeking a cleaning job.
He was directed to the Human Resource Director but instead proceeded to the second floor, where he entered the office of Daniel Sakyi Asiedu, a Deputy Director at the Ministry.
Finding the office empty, he stole an HP laptop valued at GH¢24,745.00 placed it in his backpack, and left the premises.
Investigations later revealed that Nyarko sold the stolen laptop to an unidentified person in Takoradi.
He was subsequently arrested and charged with unlawful entry and stealing, both contrary to Sections 152 and 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Theft at CHRAJ Headquarters
Nyarko was also found guilty of a separate theft incident at CHRAJ’s national headquarters on October 22, 2024. Under the pretence of following up on an application, he entered Room 15 of the Human Resource Department.
Finding the office vacant, he stole a Samsung Galaxy A54 5G mobile phone valued at GH¢4,999.00 belonging to Celis-Jane Nyadroh, the Principal Administrator of CHRAJ.
Nyadroh reported the incident to the Ministries Police and CCTV footage confirmed Nyarko’s involvement.
He was eventually arrested on January 30, 2025 while attempting another stealing at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons.
During police interrogation, he admitted to stealing the mobile phone.
Awaiting Sentencing
After investigations, Nyarko was charged and put before the court, where he pleaded guilty with explanation to all charges. His sentencing is scheduled for February 27, 2025.
