It would be recalled that in 2023, ECG took delivery of 40,000 smart prepaid meters to serve customers in Sekondi Takoradi under the loss reduction project.
The General Manager of ECG, in charge of the Western Region, Engineer (Ing) Emmanuel Ofori disclosed this at a media encounter in Takoradi.
Ing Ofori touching on the company’s operations aimed at facilitating system stabilities and indicated that ECG had done a lot of intervention in the past year.
“Our aim is to ensure that we have total stability and then reduce the rate of outages that we have in the system”.
Last year, he disclosed the company undertook 37 new projects valued at over GHC3,000,000.
“We just got an approved budget for this year, and then we had approval of 9.7 million Ghana cedis to undertake new projects to make the system more robust”.
That apart, the company also have 22 proposed transmission projects for the year 2025 aimed at interconnecting most of their system to ensure that when there were outages, they could easily connect to the network through other means.
On revenue, Ofori indicated that last year, the company undertook a lot of operations aimed at improving its revenue collections.
One of them, he mentioned, was Operation Zero and currently was on another operation code named: “Operation Keep The Light On”.
These operations, he mentioned, were aimed at improving the company’s revenue mobilisation.
“You know the challenges that ECG currently has – a challenge of revenue. We need money to do a lot of things – pay the IPPs and then do other things that will help stabilise our power system in our country.
“So this exercises help in ensuring that we collect adequate revenue to meet our obligation and help revamp the network”.
He continued that, “this year, we’ll continue to undertake several operations aimed at revenue mobilisation. We’ll urge the media, where it becomes necessary, to helpinform our customers about this operations”.
He told the media men that ECG had introduced a premium service. Under this service “when you apply, you get your line connected the same day. If you come in the morning, by evening, you have your power, a new service connected for you.You pay a little fee and then you get your connection”.
