The Chief of Odumase in the Asante Akim Central Municipality of Ashanti Region, Nana Dr. Kofi Antwi II, has supported seven brilliant, but needy students in his domain who obtained single digit aggregate in the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The beneficiary students who were all from Aduna International School, a private educational basic institution at Odumase, gained admission into various senior high schools (SHSs) across the country including St. Louis, Kumasi Anglican (KASS), Prempeh College and Konongo-Odumase (KOSS), among others.
They were offered sums of money running into thousands of Ghana cedis for basic requirements like ‘Chop-box’, trunk box and provisions.
Nana Kofi Antwi II, who also serves as the Nifahene of Asante Juaben Traditional Council and a retired Assistant Director of Ghana Prisons, explained the initiative was in league with the Education committee and in fulfilment of his pledge as part of his efforts to enhance education in his domain.
He underscored the importance of education and encouraged the beneficiary candidates to be motivated by the gesture to take their studies seriously while in school. He also urged them to study hard to become responsible citizens and further announced that his office would initiate a system to track their performance for the next ten years to ensure they lived up to expectation.
The Chief further disclosed the financial support would be extended to cover other brilliant students from public schools in future. “My priority as the Chief of the community is to empower the youth through education as it is the key to human resource development as well as the community “, he stated.
The Headmaster of the school, Richard Tetteh, commended Nana Antwi and his elders for the kind gesture, stressing that it would motivate more JHS students to study hard and achieve higher academic excellence to bring honour to the community.
He advised the beneficiaries to justify the investment being made in them by the Chief and their parents and be disciplined throughout their stay in school to enable them to achieve their goals in life.
The beneficiary students who could not hide their joy thanked the chief for the support and said it has come in time to help them prepare adequately for school. They pledged to let the gesture inspire them to focus on their education and to excel at the end of their stay in SHS.
