Ghana international Marvin Senaya is set for an extended spell on the sidelines after undergoing successful surgery to repair the hamstring injury he sustained during the Black Stars' 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The 26-year-old right-back picked up the injury during Ghana's Round of 32 encounter against Colombia at the Kansas City Stadium on Friday, July 3, bringing an abrupt end to an impressive tournament for the defender.
Medical examinations, including an MRI scan conducted in Kansas City, confirmed the severity of the hamstring injury, prompting the need for surgery.
Senaya subsequently travelled to Paris, where he underwent a successful operation before returning to his club, AJ Auxerre, to begin the next phase of his rehabilitation.
The defender is expected to spend at least eight weeks recovering before returning to competitive action.
Senaya was one of Ghana's standout performers at the World Cup, featuring in all four of the Black Stars' matches before his injury against Colombia.
His energetic displays at right-back earned praise throughout the tournament as Ghana progressed to the knockout stage.
Despite the setback, there is optimism that the Auxerre defender will recover in time to be available for Ghana's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, which is scheduled to begin later this year.
His absence will be a blow for both club and country in the short term, but the successful surgery has boosted hopes of a full recovery ahead of the Black Stars' upcoming international assignments.
