The Black Starlets’ 3-1 victory over South Africa has been described by head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum as a performance built on structure, discipline and tactical control as Ghana continue their push for FIFA U17 World Cup qualification.
Ghana finished the group stage of the 2026 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco level on points, goals scored and goals conceded with Algeria, before losing out on a quarter-final place through the drawing of lots.
Despite that setback, Ogum believes the team’s approach against South Africa demonstrated their ability to compete at a high level.
“It was a very good game, a very beautiful game. I think we had our structure in place very well, in terms of trying to have control of the game,” Ogum said after the game.
“So, to me, it was a game of two different styles, where they were trying to go direct and we were trying to keep the ball, go through the passing game, and then create and score,” he added.
The Black Starlets now shift focus to a crucial play-off against Uganda, with one of Africa’s remaining World Cup slots at stake.
