Ansgar Knauff is back on the pitch with Eintracht Frankfurt after undergoing abdominal surgery that sidelined him for about a month.
As head coach Albert Riera had hinted, the 24-year-old German-Ghanaian attacking midfielder has rejoined his teammates in full training this week and is working his way back toward competitive action.
Knauff’s health issue was unrelated to football and required an operation in the abdominal area, with reports indicating it involved an intestinal blockage. The club took no risks during his recovery, giving the attacking midfielder enough time to regain strength before easing him into normal sessions again.
Whether Knauff will already be included in the matchday squad on Sunday, when Frankfurt travel to face FSV Mainz 05, is still open. The coaching staff may instead choose to use the upcoming international break to build up his fitness more gradually with a tailored program.
For Frankfurt, Knauff’s return is a welcome boost for the decisive phase of the season, as his pace, versatility and direct style offer valuable options in the final third. Fans will now be watching closely to see when he makes his competitive comeback.
