Former Ghana international Hamza Mohammed has called for Abdul Fatawu Issahaku to be made the central figure in Ghana’s plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the young winger should be the focal point of the Black Stars’ campaign.
Mohammed stressed that Ghana must build their World Cup strategy around the 21-year-old, whom he regards as a rare and game-changing talent.
According to the former midfielder, Issahaku’s ability and confidence set him apart, making him the player the national team should rely on heading into the global tournament, provided he remains fully fit.
“He [Fatawu Issahaku] is a great talent. We are just privileged to have such a talent in our team[ Black Stars]. A young guy who is doing very well for himself and the country,” he told 3 Sports.
“We just pray for injury-free for him. I believe he should be the one that we should look for in the World Cup that we are going.”
Issahaku’s growing influence follows an impressive 2025/26 campaign in the English Championship with Leicester City F.C., where he has registered eight goals and seven assists in 33 appearances after returning from a serious ACL injury.
