Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes has labelled Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku's 94th-minute winner against West Bromwich Albion as a "special goal", praising the player's resilience to score despite suffering from cramp.
The dramatic 2-1 victory was sealed when Issahaku powered home Stephy Mavididi's cross in the dying moments, securing Leicester's third win in four home games. The goal followed compatriot Jordan Ayew's opener, which was the Foxes' first home goal of 2026.
"I'm very happy for Abdul because just before this actionâscoring the goalâhe was cramping a little bit," Cifuentes told club media. "He wanted to keep pushing [in] the last minutes, and that shows that when you believe in something and when there is togetherness in the team, then you get your reward."
The manager's comments highlighted the determination and team spirit he felt were crucial to the late victory. The result, however, had immediate consequences for the visitors, as West Bromwich Albion announced the sacking of head coach Ryan Mason in the wake of the defeat, with the club currently sitting 18th in the Championship table.
The performance of the two Ghanaian internationals proved decisive, with Issahaku's persevering effort in particular earning special praise from his manager and capping a vital win for Leicester City.
