Tunisia and Tanzania booked their places at the Round 16 stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after battling to a 1-1 stalemate in their final Group C fixture.
The two national teams locked horns at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah on Tuesday afternoon, looking for a win to guarantee their place in the knockout stage.
In the game that produced two goals, Tunisia took the lead in the 43rd minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. Ismael Gharbi stepped up and won the battle of wills, finding the back of the net with an unstoppable effort that beat Tanzania goalkeeper Hussein Masalanga.
With just a little to separate the two teams at halftime, Tanzania found a way back just three minutes into the second half.
Feisal Salum equalised with a fine strike after he was assisted by Novatus Miroshi to make it 1-1.
Despite the best attacking efforts of the two teams in the remainder of the match, there were no other goals as the contest ended in a 1-1 draw.
The result saw Tunisia finishing second with four points behind Nigeria, who finished top of Group C.
Tanzania, with two points join Nigeria and Tunisia to advance from the group to the Round 16 stage of AFCON 2025.
Tanzania ð¹ð¿ have qualified for the AFCON Round of 16 for the first time with only 2 points as one of the Best Third Placed Teams.
They qualified ahead of Angola ð¦ð´ on goals scored. They both had 2 points and the same goal difference (-1).
