German-born of Ghanaian descent, Derrick Kohn says representing Ghana at the international level is a great honour, and he will turn down any call-up to play for Germany.
The 26-year-old plies his trade in the German Bundesliga with Union Berlin and has been very impressive and amazing since the commencement of the ongoing 2025/26 campaign, making 15 appearances.
Kohn received his maiden Black Stars invite in August this year against Chad and Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, but had to wait for his debut due to clearance from FIFA.
However, the promising right back was named in Black Stars squad for the Kirin Challenge Cup and finally had his debut against Japan, where he had a decent game even though Ghana lost.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Kohn expressed readiness to play for Ghana from henceforth and will even turn down Germany at the moment should he receive an invite
“A call-up from Germany is a big thing. If they call me, I will tell them the truth that my heart is with Ghana. It doesn’t matter what happens at the World Cup, I'm ready to play for Ghana, whether it’s AFCON qualifiers or a friendly.”
He further revealed the hidden love he’s always had for the team’s current captain, Jordan Ayew
“I have been watching Jordan Ayew since growing up. I’ve been looking up to him, and it’s nice to play with him," he added.
Kohn will hope to make Black Stars' squad for the 2026 World Cup which will be co-hosted by USA, Canada and Mexico.
Ghana has been drawn in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside England, Croatia and Panama. The competition starts on June 11, 2026.
