Former Ghana star William Tierro has kicked against the inclusion of England-born duo Eddie Nketiah and Hudson Odoi in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The inclusion of Nketiah and Hudson-Odoi in the Black Stars for the global showpiece has taken centre stage, with some arguing that players who didn't contribute during the qualifiers should not earn a place in the Ghana squad for tournament, while others are pushing for their inclusion
However, the former Asante Kotoko star in interview with Kessben FM stressed it’s unnecessary for Ghana to select the England-born duo for the biggest soccer mundial.
“For me, it’s unnecessary to include Nketiah and Odoi in our squad for the World Cup. They are not essential picks for the World Cup. Truth be told, they're not game-changers like Messi or Ronaldo. In fact, they cannot perform any wonders for the team" he said.
The West African football heavyweights has been paired in Group L giants European giants, England, 2018 World Cup finalist, Croatia and Panama at the mundial, following the draw in Washington on December 5, 2025.
The 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format, with Ghana securing one of Africa’s nine automatic slots.
It will be Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022, with their best performance coming in 2010 when they reached the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Ghana has secured a high-profile friendly match against Germany scheduled for March 30, 2026.
