Servette FC defender Benedicte Simon has checked into the Black Queens training camp in Birmingham ahead of Ghana’s international friendly against England on Tuesday.
The French-born Ghanaian joined the squad on Friday with high spirits and immediately blended into the setup as preparations continue for the December 2 showdown at St. Mary’s Stadium.
The 27-year-old is one of the new faces handed a maiden call-up by head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, and her arrival adds competition and quality to the defensive unit.
Simon expressed deep pride and emotion as she reflected on the moment she saw her name on the national team list for the very first time.
“I’m very glad and happy. It’s an honour. Ghana means a lot to me - it’s my motherland. When I saw my name, I called my mother immediately. It was like a dream. I was so happy,” she explained.
Simon, who has represented top sides in France, Italy and Spain, revealed that she had long desired the opportunity to represent Ghana and was grateful to finally see it materialise.
Settling quickly into camp, she praised the warm reception from her teammates, noting she felt comfortable from the moment she arrived.
Her inclusion is expected to provide a timely boost for the Black Queens as they finalize preparations to face the Lionesses in what will be one of their toughest tests under Bjorkegren.
