The Africa Cup of Nations trophy began its global tour in London on Thursday, marking the start of the Morocco 2025 Diaspora Tour and offering an early build-up to one of Africa’s biggest sporting events.
The tour will continue in Paris and later Tokyo, reflecting the growing global presence of African football and the increasing influence of African communities abroad.
The launch in London delivered a clear message of Africa’s growing confidence in sport, youth development, and community leadership.
The 2025 AFCON tournament will run from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026 in Morocco, with matches spread across Casablanca, Marrakech, Rabat, Tangier, Fes, and Agadir.
The choice of cities is aimed at showcasing Morocco’s football facilities while promoting unity and the continent’s development drive.
AFCON 2025 is expected to feature some of Africa’s leading stars, including Sadio Mane, Achraf Hakimi, Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen.
The global trophy tour serves a wider purpose beyond promotion. By targeting major diaspora centres, African football officials aim to strengthen cultural ties, expand the continent’s sporting reach, and highlight Africa’s growing role in global sports.
