Nigeria can heave a big sigh of relief as midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been cleared to feature against DR Congo in the 2026 African World Cup playoff final.
The former Leicester City was initially ruled out of the decisive clash due to yellow cards accumulation. Upon review, the continental football governing body has confirmed Ndidi’s eligibility for the DR Congo clash, scheduled to take place at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Morocco on Sunday, November 16.
“CAF has confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi is eligible to feature for the Super Eagles in Sunday’s playoff clash against DR Congo. Cautions accumulated during the World Cup qualifiers do not carry over into the playoffs; only confirmed suspensions apply” a statement from Nigeria reads.
Ndidi has been one of Nigeria’s standout performers throughout the playoffs. The Besiktas midfielder delivered a commanding display in the 4â1 semifinal victory over Gabon, wearing the captain’s armband and providing a clever assist for Chidera Ejuke’s goal.
Having been cleared to feature against DR Congo, the experienced midfielder is expected to make his 71st appearance for the Super Eagles on Sunday. .
The winner of the upcoming tie between Nigeria and DR Congo will secure Africa’s spot in the intercontinental playoff, scheduled for March 2026.
