Sports Minister Kofi Adams has dismissed claims that the government owes the senior national women’s football team, the Black Queens.
Adams explained that payments for tournaments work differently, as the organizing body, such as CAF, is responsible for releasing funds to participating nations. He clarified that the delay in some payments was due to outstanding funds from CAF for the Morocco tournament.
"We don't owe the Black Queens we have paid we have qualification bonuses that we pay we have another one that we give them per diem. if we call you to come and play we give you something we call per diem we were not owing any player per diem qualification bonus too we were not owing anything. When you go to a tournament that is completely different in the case of tournament the organization organizing that tournament has some money that should be given to us for qualifying for the tournament and for even playing up till a certain point there is some money that should be given to us," he told Peace FM as monitored by Ghanasoccernet.com
"The tournament we went for in Morocco what CAF suppose to give Ghana we haven't even received it up till today unless it has come and the FA hasn't reported it. If have told them everything that government intends to give that money indeed the government made a provision for except the estimate the FA brought that we took to the government for release of funds they didn't add a significant portion of the estimate to it that is additional accommodation.
"So when we got to Morocco that was a cost we needed to pay their group stage bonus money that came. I have to instruct that then they should use that money to pay the accommodation and other related expenses that has come up. that was how come the group stage bonus they didn't receive it but government made provision for that already,"
