Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson says the 2025 WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup provided valuable preparation for Ghana’s upcoming FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
Ghana ended their WAFU B campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Nigeria on Tuesday, November 11, in their final group game in Benin.
The Falconets scored twice before halftime and added a third late on to seal victory, repeating their earlier win over the Princesses in the same competition.
Despite the defeat, Sampson believes the tournament offered the right test for his side ahead of next year’s crucial World Cup qualifier.
“This was what I was looking for,” he said. “From the two games we played throughout our preparation and playing Tunisia now, I was very certain that we need more work to do.
"So this particular WAFU tournament has really helped us to see what we need to add to the team.”
The Black Princesses recorded two victories in the tournament, both against Benin, and suffered two losses to Nigeria.
Sampson added that the team will continue scouting new talents to strengthen key positions as they build towards the third round of the World Cup qualifiers in 2026.
