Hamburger SV skipper Yussuf Poulsen has shared his delight for Ghana forward Ransford Yeboah-Konigsdorffer after netting his first goal in the Bundesliga.
The Black Stars forward has come under intense pressure from fans and critics following a run of nine games without a goal, which saw him relegated to the bench.
However, on Saturday, the 23-year-old climbed off the bench to score a powerful header and earn a valuable point for Hamburg in their game against Dortmund.
Poulsen disclosed after the game he knew the Ghanaian attacker will come good due to his hard work in training.
"A deserved point. Ransi (Konigsdorffer) has done really well in recent weeks. Today he came on from a different role and sometimes that helps. A fantastic finish. I’m absolutely delighted for him â he’s a great guy and we get on really well," he said after the game.
“I said then that his goal would come eventually because he works hard for the team. Eventually, he will be rewarded for that. Some of you were also hard on him.”
The German-born forward has now netted two goals this season, with his first in the DFB Pokal.
Hamburger SV coach Merlin Polzin also shared his praise for the striker after the match. He said: "Football writes its own stories, and today it wrote one with Ransi’s goal. A really successful afternoon for us with a result we’re very happy about."
