Ghana goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan has been shortlisted for the 2025 FIFA Best Women’s XI, capping an outstanding year for both club and country.
The WAFCON star is among three African goalkeepers nominated in the goalkeeping category for the global Team of the Year.
Konlan’s performances at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco were central to Ghana’s impressive third-place finish.
She produced decisive saves in two knockout matches, helping the Black Queens secure the bronze medal after a spirited campaign.
Her nomination marks a rare milestone for Ghanaian women’s football, as she remains the only player from the country on the prestigious list.
“She was exceptional throughout the tournament,” said one CAF technical observer after WAFCON, praising her leadership and reflexes under pressure.
Konlan joins Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie and Tanzania’s Ngoy Mudimbi as the African goalkeepers recognised for excellence this year.
Other nominees from the continent include Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak, Ibtissam Jraidi and Sanaa Mssoudy, Zambia’s Barbra Banda, and Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga.
The final FIFA Best Women’s XI will be unveiled early next year, with global fans and experts voting to honour the standout performers of the 2024 season.
