Head coach of Karela United Nurudeen Amadu has urged his players to improve their performance following defeat to Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
The Pride and Passion Boys succumbed to a 4-2 defeat to the Porcupine Warriors in matchday eight of the Ghana Premier League, held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Following the defeat, Amadu, who guided Samartex to their maiden Ghana Premier League success has admitted Kotoko were the better side, while urging his players to improve.
“We started the match slowly and conceded quick goals which were unpardonable. Congratulations to Kotoko because they were the better side, but we need to work hard as a team” he said.
Midfielder Hubert Gyau set the tone early, blasting home the opener in the 6th minute before Bless Ege levelled for Karela. Gyau struck again with a thunderous effort from distance to restore Kotoko’s advantage, and Seth Kwadwo extended the lead with a powerful header just before halftime.
In the second half, Peter Amidu Acquah added a fourth from close range to seal the victory. Karela pulled one back in the 72nd minute, but Kotoko’s dominance was never in doubt as they controlled the game with 62% possession and created 10 total shots to Karela’s 4, registering 4 on target against the visitors’ 2.
Currently, Karela United find themselves on the seventh position on the Ghana Premier League standings, accumulating 12 points from eight appearances, while Kotoko sit eight spot with 11 points but are three matches behind due to their Africa campaign involvement.
