Asante Kotoko midfielder Hubert Gyau says his outfit were more determined to secure victory over Karela United in the Ghana Premier League at the weekend.
The Porcupine Warriors responded to their disappointing 5-1 defeat against Wydad Casablanca, inflicting a 4-2 victory over Karela United in matchday eight of the domestic top-flight.
Goals from Seth Kwadwo, Peter Amidu and Hubert Gyau’s brace were enough for Kotoko to secure the three maximum points at stake on Sunday afternoon.
After the game, Gyau, who joined Kotoko before the start of the season from Berekum Chelsea affirmed his side were poised to snatch victory.
“We were more determined to win the game. It was a must-win game for us. We are now looking forward to the Accra Hearts of Oak clash on Sunday” he said.
Midfielder Hubert Gyau set the tone early, blasting home the opener in the 6th minute before Bless Ege levelled for Karela. Gyau struck again with a thunderous effort from distance to restore Kotoko’s advantage, and Seth Kwadwo extended the lead with a powerful header just before halftime.
In the second half, Peter Amidu Acquah added a fourth from close range to seal the victory. Karela pulled one back in the 72nd minute, but Kotoko’s dominance was never in doubt as they controlled the game with 62% possession and created 10 total shots to Karela’s 4, registering 4 on target against the visitors’ 2.
