Greater Accra Region claimed the bronze medal at the maiden MTN Elite U19 Championship after defeating Ashanti Region 2-0 in the third-place playoff on Sunday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
After a balanced first half, the capital side took control in the second period, showing precision and composure to seal victory. The breakthrough came in the 47th minute when Yussif Saani calmly converted from the spot to put Greater Accra ahead. 10 minutes later, Mustapha Bunyaminu doubled the lead with a fine finish in the 57th minute, completing a dominant second-half display.
The result served as revenge for Felix Afotey Odai’s team, who had earlier lost 2-1 to Ashanti Region in the group stage. This time, they executed their plan perfectly, combining tactical discipline with attacking flair.
Greater Accra’s third-place finish crowns an impressive campaign, marked by creativity, teamwork and resilience throughout the 11-day tournament powered by MTN Ghana, reaffirming the GFA’s commitment to youth football development
