Samuel Yaw Dabo, the owner of Dabo Soccer Academy, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to channel more investment into football academies across the country.
Speaking at an event in Paris, the actor and football administrator highlighted the financial challenges faced by academies that nurture young players for the national and international stages.
Dabo emphasised that while the government has supported the Ghana Premier League, an equally urgent level of financial backing is needed for grassroots football and youth academies.
“I own an academy where I take kids from the streets, villages, and orphanages and camp them for training,” Dabo said.
“The support given to the Premier League is what we also need, because those of us running academies are struggling.”
He noted that football academies like his play a crucial role in producing future stars and ensuring Ghana’s long-term success in international competitions.
Dabo also commended President Mahama for improving the league’s financial structure, pointing to recent increases in club funding and prize money.
“We thank you for your efforts in sports,” he added. “Since you came, clubs now receive substantial funds before the season starts.”
