The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has urged Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Queens as they prepare to face Egypt in the second leg of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier on Tuesday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Association also sought to clarify media reports alleging that the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, had “called off the bluff” of the Black Queens during a meeting over their unpaid bonuses. The GFA described those reports as false and misleading, stressing that they do not reflect the tone or substance of the discussions held.
According to the statement, the meeting, which involved the Minister, GFA President Kurt Okraku, and the leadership of the Black Queens, focused on resolving the team’s outstanding financial issues and ensuring smooth preparations for the decisive fixture. The Minister reportedly appealed to the players to stay focused and assured them that the government was taking immediate steps to address the situation.
The GFA reaffirmed its close collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to resolve the impasse and ensure the players receive their due support. It also called on the media and the public to rely on official communications from the GFA and the Ministry for accurate information.
The Association concluded by calling on fans to turn up in their numbers at the Accra Sports Stadium to cheer the Black Queens to victory as they seek to complete their qualification campaign in style.
