President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has expressed deep appreciation to former FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi for his unwavering support and guidance over the years.
Mr Okraku, who succeeded Nyantakyi in 2019, has faced intense scrutiny during his tenure, largely due to the inconsistent performances of Ghana’s national teams, particularly the Black Stars.
Under his leadership, Ghana suffered back-to-back group-stage exits at the 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, before failing to qualify for the 2025 edition, the first time in over two decades.
Despite these setbacks, the Black Stars bounced back strongly to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, Mr Okraku commended Nyantakyi, the former CAF 1st Vice President, for his continuous mentorship and willingness to offer advice in difficult moments.
"I am always grateful to Kwasi Nyantakyi for his support," he said.
"He did his best for the country, and anytime I am faced with a challenge, I call him and he meets me and offers me his advise, and I am always grateful to him for attending to me anytime I call on him when I am in trouble," he added.
The Black Stars are set to discover their group-stage opponents for the 2026 World Cup on December 5.
