Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren admitted his side showed signs of rustiness despite their convincing 3-0 win over Egypt in Ismailia on Thursday.
Ghana took a big step toward qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after goals from Doris Boaduwaa, Mary Amponsah and Grace Asantewaa secured a comfortable first-leg advantage.
Bjorkegren, however, said the team’s play lacked the fluidity seen in earlier matches due to limited time together before the fixture.
"You can see that we haven’t been together for a while; it doesn’t connect like it did a couple of months ago," he said.
"But I do think that the energy was there. We did many good things. In the end, we performed overall well. We can win a difficult away game 3-0."
He added: "The result is amazing, so it puts us in a good position, of course, to make sure that we reach the next WAFCON."
The Black Queens were slow to settle, with Egypt creating early openings that failed to trouble goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan.
Ghana eventually took control late in the first half when Boaduwaa converted from Jennifer Cudjoe’s clever through pass.
Amponsah and Asantewaa added second-half goals to seal the win ahead of Tuesday’s return leg in Accra.
