Black Stars coach Otto Addo has declined to comment on the future of Ghana’s most capped player, Andre Ayew, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 35-year-old forward has not received a call-up since Addo returned as head coach in March 2024, leaving his national team status uncertain.
"So, like the same as with others, I respect him highly. He’s a true legend, but the same as other players who are not in the squad at the moment, I wouldn’t talk about it," Addo said on Sporty FM.
In Ayew’s absence, his younger brother, Jordan Ayew, has been named Ghana’s substantive captain. Jordan led the Black Stars to qualification for the 2026 World Cup, guiding the team through the final stages of the qualifiers with consistency and composure.
Andre Ayew, however, remains without a club after leaving French side Le Havre at the end of last season, and his return to the national team may depend on securing regular playing time ahead of next year’s tournament. The question of whether Ghana’s all-time top scorer will feature in the squad remains open as preparations continue.
