Black Stars coach Otto Addo has made it clear that he is not considering a return to club football after guiding Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Addo, who previously worked as a talent coach and assistant at Borussia Dortmund before taking over the Black Stars, is now in his second stint as head coach of Ghana. He has made history as the first coach to lead the national team to back-to-back World Cup qualifications, having achieved the same feat for the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
Speaking about his immediate plans, Addo emphasised that his focus is solely on the national team. "For me, I’m just focusing on the World Cup and that’s it," he told Sporty FM.
"In football, you can’t plan too far ahead. You can’t say in two or three years, I want to do this or that. You go with the flow and see what happens. My focus is surely on Ghana, and I want to stay here as long as I can and do well for the team."
Addo’s comments underline his commitment to the Black Stars as he prepares for next year’s tournament, aiming to improve on Ghana’s previous World Cup performances and make a significant impact on the global stage.
Next year’s World Cup will be Ghana’s fifth appearance, having previously competed in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022. Their best finish remains the quarterfinals at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
