The Catch Them Young Female Referees are gaining crucial hands-on experience as they officiate matches in the Elite U-17 Girls Inter-Regional Championship, a key component of the FIFA Women’s Development Programme: League Development Project.
This initiative forms part of a broader Capacity Building Course jointly organised by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and FIFA, designed to equip young female referees with the theoretical knowledge and practical exposure required for their professional advancement.
As part of the programme, participants receive on-field mentorship and technical guidance, helping them enhance their officiating techniques, decision-making, and match management skills. The practical sessions are tailored to prepare these young referees for progression to both national and international levels, nurturing a new generation of confident, capable, and ethical match officials.
In addition to the technical training, the referees are also developing vital soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and leadership - qualities essential for success in elite football officiating.
The Catch Them Young Refereeing Initiative remains a central pillar of the GFA’s long-term youth and women’s football development strategy, reaffirming the Association’s commitment to creating a sustainable pathway for female referees and strengthening Ghana’s reputation on the global football stage.
