Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara has hailed the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing it as the most impressive in the nation’s history.
Ghana topped Group I with 25 points from 10 matches, finishing six points ahead of second-placed Madagascar.
The Black Stars won eight of their qualifiers, drew once, and lost just one, ending the campaign with a goal difference of +17.
The achievement came under head coach Otto Addo, who faced intense criticism earlier after failing to qualify the team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the backlash, Addo led Ghana to a dominant run that secured their fifth appearance at the global tournament.
“Throughout our qualifying history in Ghana’s World Cup campaigns, we’ve not had such an impressive outing. All credit to everyone involved, particularly the coach [Otto Addo], who has, in my opinion, been unfairly targeted,” Sannie Daara told Joy Sports.
He added that Addo’s resilience amid scrutiny deserves commendation, saying the coach turned pressure into performance to deliver Ghana’s most convincing qualification yet.
The Black Stars will discover their World Cup group-stage opponents when the official draw takes place on December 5 in Washington, D.C.
