Birkirkara FC have announced the signing of Ghanaian forward Asumah Abubakar-Ankrah to strengthen their attacking options following the long-term injury of Nigerian striker Franklin Sasere.
The Maltese Premier League side confirmed the deal in a statement, describing Abubakar as a dynamic and experienced centre-forward whose qualities will add depth and versatility to the squad.
“Asumah is a dynamic center-forward known for his pace, strength, and intelligent movement inside the box. His ability to hold up play and finish clinically with both feet provides a fresh attacking option following the unfortunate long-term injury of Franklin Sasere,” the club said.
The 27-year-old, who also holds a Portuguese passport, joins Birkirkara with a wealth of experience gained across Europe and beyond. He previously featured for clubs in the Netherlands and Switzerland before moving to Australia’s A-League with Brisbane Roar.
His arrival is seen as a timely boost for the Stripes, who have been searching for a proven finisher to lead their frontline.
Birkirkara hailed the Ghanaian forward’s adaptability and professionalism, noting that his exposure to multiple football cultures makes him the ideal fit for the club’s ambitions this season.
“We would like to welcome Asumah while wishing him all the best of luck in his experience with our club,” the statement added.
