
Ghana and Hearts of Oak legend Peter Lamptey has passed away at age 79.
The prolific forward, who gained prominence for his role at Hearts in the 70s, died on Thursday, October 9, 2025 in Accra.
"Farewell, "Goal Thief". Hearts of Oak mourns the passing of Peter Lamptey, one of the legendary Fearsome Five members. Your name is written forever in Phobian history. Rest well, legend," posted the Phobians on social media, paying tribute to their legend.
His passing comes few days following the death of former Ghana striker Nana Saraah Mensah.
The Goal Thief as he is affectionately known helped Hearts to success during his days with the Ghanaian giants, forming a lethal attacking partnership with legends Mohammed Polo, Anas Seidu, Mama Acquah and Robert Hammond. They were popularly known as the Fearsome Five.
He also represented Ghana at various championships, including the Munich Olympics in 1972.
Lamptey won the Ghana Premier League five times, three FA Cups and was the top scorer in the 1973 league season.
