Algeria have become the latest African country to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a 3-0 victory against Somalia on Thursday, October 9.
The North African side locked horns with Somalia today in a Round 9 encounter in Group G.
In the must-win game, Algeria started the game on a bright note, scoring after just six minutes into the first half.
Highly-rated winger Mohamed Amoura equalised to give Algeria the lead after he was set up by veteran attacker Riyad Mahrez.
Later in the 19th minute, the former Manchester City attacker found the back of the net to double the lead for Algeria. He was set up by Fares Chaibi.
That goal put Algeria in control at halftime, with Somalia struggling to keep up even in the second half.
In cruise control, Algeria sealed the deal in the second half with a third goal in the 57th minute when Mohamed Amoura netted his second of the day to complete a brace. Once again, he was assisted by Riyad Mahrez.
With the emphatic victory against Somalia, Algeria extend their lead at the top of Group G with 22 points, and seals their qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
