The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has revealed that discussions are underway with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to establish fan zones for Ghana’s final 2026 World Cup qualifier against Comoros .
Speaking at a media briefing ahead of Sunday’s game, scheduled for October 12 at 19:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium, Ampofo Ankrah said the initiative aims to curb overcrowding â a recurring challenge during Black Stars home matches.
“We don’t want the challenges that we had the last time when fans were crowded round the stadium looking to purchase tickets,” he stated.
The NSA chief explained that the proposed fan zones would be set up at strategic locations to allow supporters who cannot access the stadium to safely enjoy the game.
“We are also in talks with the GFA and other partners to ensure that there would be some fan zones or fans areas around the stadium â not necessarily around the stadium but where fans can watch the match safely,” he said.
Ampofo Ankrah added that the NSA has received a surge in ticket requests ahead of the highly anticipated fixture, as Ghana are on the verge of securing qualification for next year’s World Cup.
