The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has rolled out its Football4Girls programme in the Takoradi Metropolitan area, a grassroots initiative aimed at providing girls with a platform to play football, nurture their passion for the game, and align with the goals of the GFA Women’s Football Strategy.
The event brought together ten schools: Bedu Addo Methodist Basic, Takoradi Presby Primary, Bishop O’Rorke Anglican, All Saints Anglican, Woode Methodist, Korsah Complex, Bethel Methodist Basic, Perry Hayford, Axim Road Primary, and Bishop Essuah Catholic.
Designed to raise awareness and close the participation gap in girls’ football, the programme also outlined the Women’s Football Strategy pathways, highlighting opportunities for girls to pursue careers in football as players, coaches, referees, administrators, or sports professionals.
Alongside educational sessions, the day featured fun activities and friendly matches, allowing the girls to enjoy the game, build confidence, and create new friendships.
Head of Women’s Football Development at the GFA, Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, described the initiative as part of a “revolution in grassroots women’s football,” noting that Football4Girls remains a central pillar of the Association’s long-term vision to inspire, empower, and expand opportunities for young girls, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable future for women’s football in Ghana.
