Stade Rennais defender Alidu Seidu has detailed the immense mental and physical challenge of recovering from an ACL injury, a setback that affected several Ghanaian players last season, and has set his sights on a national team return.
In an interview with Flashscore, Seidu described the ordeal as a profound test of character. “The ACL process is very difficult and it’s all in the head, your mentality, how you cope with the injury,” he stated. He credited his support system for seeing him through, adding, “With the support of my teammates, the staff, my family and the fans, they gave me the energy to work harder. That made the rehab very smooth.”
The physical toll was severe. “When you get ACL you lose everything, your thighs become skinny. The toughest period was the gym and cardio, but I knew this was the process I had to pass through to be back,” Seidu recalled.
His return to the pitch was an emotional victory. “The moment I stepped on the pitch, I was so happy. The ACL was my biggest and longest injury. Coming back was crazy and weird at the same time, but I was just waiting for this day.”
Now fully recovered and having put in a man-of-the-match performance for Rennes, Seidu is targeting a comeback with the Black Stars for the October World Cup qualifiers, declaring his commitment: “If I’m able to join the group in October, I’ll give everything and die for the team. That’s my target.”
He also expressed strong belief in Ghana's World Cup qualifying campaign, stating, “We must qualify for the World Cup. This team has many young players, so we need patience. In a few years, we’ll be very strong and difficult to beat.”
Having overcome one of football's most daunting challenges, Seidu's focus is now on helping both club and country achieve their goals.
