Defending champions Western Region launched their campaign in the 2025 KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U-17 Colts Championship with a hard-fought 1â0 victory over Upper West Region in the opening Group A fixture at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Saturday, September 20.
The Western side, widely tipped to contend again, set the tone for the nine-day tournament by securing three early points in an entertaining contest.
In the other Group A fixtures, Volta Region delivered a composed performance to secure a 2â0 victory over Elite Academy (Bolga), while Greater Accra overcame last year’s bronze medallists, Northern Region, with clinical finishing and disciplined defending, also winning 2â0.
In Group B, a tightly contested match between Upper East and Greater Accra Elite B ended in a 0â0 stalemate, with Upper East eventually prevailing 5â3 on penalties.
Central Region edged Brong Ahafo 3â2 in a thrilling five-goal encounter, making an early statement of intent, while last year’s runners-up, Eastern Region, secured a convincing 3â1 victory over Ashanti Region.
Now in its fifth year, the KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship has firmly established itself as a premier platform for emerging talent, with numerous alumni progressing to Ghana’s junior national teams, excelling in domestic leagues, and earning opportunities with clubs abroad.
With an expanded 12-team lineup featuring all ten Regional Football Associations alongside the GFA Elite Academies, the 2025 edition promises high-quality football and continues to showcase the next generation of Ghanaian football stars.
