The government has given a major boost to Ghana’s representation on the continental stage by disbursing $50,000 each to Asante Kotoko and Bibiani GoldStars to support their campaigns in upcoming CAF Inter-club competitions.
The financial intervention, announced on Tuesday, underscores the state’s commitment to assisting local clubs as they strive for success against Africa’s elite teams.
Officials say the funding is part of efforts to ease the financial burdens that often undermine Ghanaian clubs’ preparations for continental football. As one of Africa’s most respected football nations, Ghana has a proud history of producing competitive clubs, but many teams have struggled to translate domestic dominance into sustained success in CAF tournaments due to limited resources.
Asante Kotoko, Ghana’s most decorated club, will deploy the funds to strengthen its squad and upgrade logistical support ahead of the CAF Confederation Cup.
GoldStars, meanwhile, are set for their maiden appearance in the CAF Champions League, and the support is expected to be pivotal to their preparations.
The Bibiani-based side’s rapid rise has captured national attention, and officials believe a strong showing in Africa will cement their status as one of the country’s emerging forces.
